Unofficial Funding Circle Forum Closes
The unofficial Funding Circle forum, started by one of the Funding Circle lenders, has today closed. This is unfortunate as the forum provided an independent resource for new and old lenders, and included topics beyond Funding Circle including some of the other peer-to-peer providers such as Assetz Capital.
At P2P money we were approached about taking on this forum, but after determining that were running different versions of software this would have been a difficult task. We would publicly like to thank George for his time and effort in setting up and running the unofficial Funding Circle forum, as we appreciate that running a forum that has been as popular as this one has been isn't as easy as one may think.
Here is the final post on the unofficial Funding Circle forum:
I decided a few months ago that I cannot give this forum the attention it needs. After speaking to Funding Circle about it, they offered to take over the ownership of the forum and reimburse me for my time and expenses put into running the forum. Their intention is primarily to protect the members of this forum, the majority of whom are Funding Circle customers. As of today, the 6th November 2013, Funding Circle will take full ownership of this forum, eventually redirecting all traffic to their official forum which most of you are on. If you have any questions about this process, please ask on the official forum and the Funding Circle team will answer your questions. There is a thread about it here http://forum.fundingcircle.com/showthread.php?9885-Closing-of-the-independent-forum
Here is the post of the official Funding Circle forum:
A few months ago, I was chatting with the owner of the independent forum and he told me that he wasn't that involved with the forum anymore and he was struggling to find the time to take care of it and wondered if we would be interested in taking it over.
Being a forum that carries our name and most of the members are Funding Circle customers, I felt it was important to make sure these members weren't exposed to anything untoward. After discussions with the team here, we decided to take up the offer.
I think it's important to mention that we also did decide to reimburse the owner a small amount that we had worked out retrospectively, based on his set up and hosting costs and the time he has spent running the forum. I felt it was important to show appreciation for the effort he put into creating a Funding Circle community when we didn't have the resources to do it.
As we now have an established and thriving forum of our own we have decided to close the independent forum as we know most users are users across both. This is mainly a resources reason. It is only myself and Becky that run the forum so having us run two forums on the same topics would be impractical.
Nothing changes on the official forum however. We will stick to our very open approach to moderation. Users have always enjoyed freedom to talk about just about anything on here, just the same as it was on the independent forum. The key advantage of this forum, of course, is that here you get answers not only from us but from people all over the Funding Circle business and I believe that is what forums should really be about.
So as of today, posting on the independent forum is no longer possible and we are here to answer any questions you may have about this switchover here on this thread.
While Funding Circle do not permit comments about their competitors, the Zopa forum do have threads on some of the other peer-to-peer companies.
